Working to bring a Veterans Memorial Wall to Sunset Hills Cemetery

Frequently Asked Questions

Friends of the Sunset Hills Cemetery Veterans Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization working under the Gallatin Foundation’s 501(C)(3) tax exempt status.  Check out the Gallatin Foundation website for additional details about them.

Who are we?

We have raised approximately $100,000 of donations in the form of cash, in-kind labor and material contributions to install a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Those donations have enabled us to complete the installation of the wall.

What have we accomplished?

The wall is located at the veterans portion of Sunset Hills Cemetery, which is on the south end.  This is the same location where the traveling wall was temporarily on display in 1995.  Existing landscaping installed in 1995 for the temporary display was used for the permanent installation.

Where is the wall located?

A bid was submitted and accepted by the Veterans Memorial Fund in Washington D.C for $30,000 to purchase and deliver the wall.

What is the cost to purchase the wall?

The Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall is the corner stone of a larger All Veteran Memorial envisioned by the Friends and the Gallatin Foundation.  There are plans in place to include veterans from all conflicts involving U.S. service men and women including:

             Spanish American War

             World War I

             World War II

             Korean War

             Vietnam War

             Gulf War

             Panama

             Bosnia / Somalia / Kosovo

             Iraq / Afghanistan Wars

Will this project honor U.S. service men and women from other wars?

An initial fundraising goal of $58,253, which symbolizes $1 for every name on the wall, paid for the initial purchase and installation.

While a bulk of the total funds went toward purchase and delivery of the wall, the remaining money was used for flag poles, modifications to the existing retaining wall, water and electric utilities hook up, purchasing a memorial sculpture, and future work toward the All Veterans Memorial.

What is total cost of the project?

Broad community support from individuals and local businesses throughout the region have ensured the success of this project.  Click here to see a list of major contributors.  Continued support is necessary in order to realize the long term All Veterans Memorial vision.  Click here to learn about ways to donate to this effort.

Who will pay for this project?

Yes.  Through the relationship with the Gallatin Foundation, all donors receive full benefit of making donations to a 501(C) (3) non-profit charitable corporation.

Is my donation tax deductible?
